Karin Eato Smith-Wall is originally from New York. She came to Boston in the late 70’s to attend college. After marriage to Bruce Wall, a Bostonian in 1987 she conceded that Boston was home. She holds an undergraduate degree from Suffolk University in psychology; a Master of Social Work and Master of Arts in African American Studies from Boston University. The latter two she received simultaneously in 1983. Karin is a licensed American-Baptist Minister; a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker; a certified trainer in Outcome Measurements and is certified as a NFTE trainer. (National Foundation for Training Entrepreneurs).
In 1988 she and her husband, then Clerk Magistrate of the Boston Juvenile Court and Youth Minister at 12th Baptist Church embarked on a then unusual form of Ministry. They started an outreach to community youth and their families at a Roller Skating Rink in the Dorchester/Mattapan area. This Ministry later became known as Bruce Wall Ministries and grew to include an after school program, New Horizons Program (a summer internship, training and placement program), summer camp, work with women in transition, re-entry work with the Suffolk House of Correction and a certified NFTE site.
Since 1993 she has worked with her husband who Pastor’s Global Ministries Christian Church. Currently Ms. Wall is a Clinical Social Worker at a Boston Public Elementary School where she provides psychotherapy for children with a range of behavioral and emotional issues, including trauma. Karin is passionate about treating the whole child which includes their families, support systems and taking into consideration environmental issues such as poverty, underachieving schools, race, nutrition and culture. She believes most children can be successful given the right conditions. She is Currently working on her first book entitled “This One Thing I Do”. She also broadcast a “live” weekly one hour radio show on WEZE 590 AM Radio. The broadcast is entitled “For Such a Time as This.” Finally, but most importantly she and her husband Bruce have 3 children ages 20, 17 and 13. An avid vacationer Ms. Wall loves almost anyplace tropical with a clear warm beach.
